For The Greater Good

It seems as though in our modern, popular culture we have focused on such trivial things. I think we need to focus on people who actually accomplish something.  One of the responsibilities of a leader is to put their ego in check, to master their ego and to do things not for their own needs, but for the greater good for the long term and not just for the next quarter’s results.  In spite of what some say in this often winner-take-all world, I think there really are things that we owe to each other as citizens.  And we shouldn’t forget that.

Where do our Project Linus blankets go?

This rates as a frequently asked question.  And rightfully so!  Our volunteers aka Blanketeers, spend countless hours and precious funds making blankets and quilts to donate to our Nevada County Chapter.  We appreciate and respect the efforts of our Blanketeers, making sure the facilities and agencies we deliver to feel the same.

Currently, our main regular recipients are both Nevada County hospitals—Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley and the Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee.  Child Advocates also receives regular deliveries.  Other recipients include the annual Beale Baby Shower program, domestic violence agencies and Child Protective Services.  These are not regulars, but we deliver when they are in need.  Once or twice a year, our Chapter sends letters to 10-20 County agencies reminding these children’s agencies that we’re here for them if they need blankets.

Please be assured our Chapter is protective of who gets donated blankets.  If the agency is unappreciative or does not comply with our distribution guidelines, donations to that agency will be discontinued.

We value  our Blanketeers and the support they provide!  Our Nevada County Project Linus Chapter could not do what we do without them!

Soroptimist Garden Tour, May 16 & 17

The annual Soroptimist International of the Sierra Foothills Garden Tour will be held May 16 & 17. This tour is highly recommended and is on our “must do” list each year.

The Soroptimist group has been supportive of our Project Linus Chapter over the years. Please help them by supporting the Tour and passing this information along to friends and family. Admission ticket sales directly support the Soroptimist’s grant program, so look at your participation as a potential indirect donation to your Nevada County Project Linus Chapter and many worthy non-profits in the Nevada County region!

Plastic Bags Anyone?

If you’re a shopper—as in “one who likes to shop”—and have any extra large/oversized plastic bags from your shopping expeditions, we’d love to have them!  We reuse Blanketeer shopping bags to deliver blankets to our local facilities.  The facilities will often return the bags and we reuse them until they break!  Once they break, we make sure they are retired to the recycle bin.

While we don’t need a ton of them, if you have a few to include with your blanket donations, we’d greatly appreciate it!  Reduce, reuse and recycle!
